Hi there, my name’s Chris Vogliano.

I’m a dietitian and a Ph.D candidate at Massey University in New Zealand studying biodiverse and sustainable food systems. Our global food system contains over 5500 edible plant species – all with varying amounts of nutrition and climate change adaptation qualities.  Yet just 3 plant species – rice, corn and wheat – make up more than 50% of the world’s calories.  This simplification of diets, is contributing to the escalating problems of obesity and malnutrition. 

My primary aim research goal is to improve the health of indigenous Pacific Islanders by scaling up local and traditional biodiverse foods. Working with nature (and within our planet’s boundaries) is essential if we want to meet the needs of the future.  To learn more, check out United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
